Sewing & Craft Classes
In December 1947, Mrs Shortland of Butterworth appealed to the YWCA Penang to help in the sewing of garments for poor children. The material arrived at the home of the President, Mrs Cheah Inn Khiong, where the members gathered to cut the material and took the pieces home to sew. These garments were distributed to the estate children by the Women Service League Nibong Tebal branch.
Since then, sewing has been an ongoing project of the Y. The women would gather to share their sewing talent with each other. Dress making classes were held at the Y since 1953.
